Frequently Asked Questions

Is your farm a co-op?
This question has come up rather frequently due to the name of the farm: Stone Coop Farm. The farm's namesake is actually a large, stone chicken coop (hence, Stone Coop, not co-op) from the 1880s on the property of Hamburg Fitness Center, where we started the farm in 2011. The coop has served many purposes aside from housing chickens over the years, including camp dormitories and bathrooms. To answer the question directly, we are a CSA, not a co-op. See several questions below for more information on CSAs.

What does CSA stand for?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. CSA members pay for a season of produce before the season begins. In return members get a share of fresh and healthy vegetables. When you purchase a Stone Coop Farm membership, you are allowing us to purchase seeds, equipment, and supplies when we need it the most, before the harvest. This membership lets you get to know your farmers, see your food grow and ripen, be in tune with the weather and impact on the crops, and maybe even get your hands dirty helping us on the farm. This direct access to your food is impossible to obtain from the store.

Is Stone Coop Farm LLC a Certified Organic Farm?
Yes! We have been a Certified Organic Farm since 2011. Each year we are re certified through OEFFA

When can I purchase my share for 2015?
Shares are now available for purchase. We have several different types of memberships, so please see one of the below links to find the right type of share for you and your family:

Can I purchase another Market Share Membership if I use all of my funds before the end of the season?
Of course!

When do my Market Share funds expire?
The Market Share memberships are good from the date it is purchased to the last online sale in December of the calendar year the share is purchased. The Market Share funds do not carry over to the next year.

When can I pick up my share?
For Spring, Summer, and Fall Share members, share pickup is Wednesdays at the farm from 4:00PM to 6:00PM

Market Share Members start getting our produce as soon as a share is purchased, either through our online sales or at farmers market.

What happens if I can't make it to distribution?
CSA Members – please call us as soon as you know so we can make other
arrangements for a pick up.
Market Share Members – Feel free to come to either market when it is convenient for you. You will have until the end of the calendar year to use your Market Share funds.

Can I email you to let you know that I will not be there for distribution?
Yes, you can either email us up to the day before distribution or call/text to let us know when you can pick up your share 810-599-2616 (Joannée).

Can my friend pick up my share if I am out of town?
Yes, please let us know who will be picking up your share.

I didn't get my share last week? Can I get two this week?
We have a tight harvest schedule and will not be able to double up on a CSA share. Please plan to make other arrangements to have someone else pick up your share.

Can I still buy produce from the farm even if I don't have a share?
Of course! During the farmers market season, produce is available for purchase at Brighton Farmers Markets as well as at the farm. In the winter, customers may buy produce through our online sales system.

Will eggs be available?
Eggs are available for purchase during online sales at the farm.

Will turkeys be available?
Yes, we will be offering a few heritage breed turkeys for Thanksgiving. We have a local farm in Howell that will be raising them for us. We will be sharing more information about how you can reserve your turkey soon.
